The name ‘palio’ comes from the painted silk cloth, pallium, awarded to the winner. The Palio is a thrilling race between ten horses (barberi), whose jockeys ride bareback, and each represent a specific Contrada (historic neighbourhood) of Siena. The race takes place in Campo Square twice a year: once on July 2nd in honour of Our Lady of Provenzano and once on August 16th in honour of Our Lady of Assumption.

GRANDSTAND PALIO di SIENA TICKETS – here at TuscanTeam we have experienced the Palio horse race several times and surely a sit on the grandstand guarantees a very exciting point of view. Grandstand are erected directed on the track, so close to the racetrack that you will feel the movement of air created by the galloping horses while the excitement and cheering will overwhelm you. You will see the horses dart 3 times and you will hold your breath until the end of the race and the beginning of the party of the winning Contrada. The Grandstand Ticket include the view of the Historical Parade (Corteo Storico), which takes place in the Piazza del Campo before the horse race. Each Grandstand Palio Ticket is numbered, and it guarantees 1 seat.
